Free Smart Money Magazine

So I don't really know how many of these Rewards Gold deals you can sign up for, but this one is really practical.  A lot of the reason we started this blog is because we feel that we haven't found nearly as much money advice out there for young adults and college students as there is for our dads.  That said, I still find magazines like Smart Money and Kiplingers Personal Finance interesting and can usually find a few articles with relevant information.
This is a pretty easy sign up, they just want information about your watch collection ;)

I bet with the $5 giftcard you could find some great deals at your local Gap! Click here to claim.

ThriftySeeker just featured us!!!

So hopefully you all were able to get something wonderful with your $5 credit that we posted a week ago! That was a quick way to make a good deal even better.  If you haven't, you should check their site out.  They have awesome deals on cute etsy products AND if you go on their page right now you can see our blog in their "Blog Spot Light!!!"

A smart money tip that I am sure that I will write about in the future is the importance of getting gifts throughout the year, ahead of when you actually need them.  This site has some great options for that.

We posted this for you before, but again just for those of you who missed it here's a little about the site:

  •  ThriftySeeker posts amazing new deals a few times a week. These items are 40-90% off!
  • Earn points by referring friends and purchasing products
  • Turn your points into FREE deals

Free Fishing Days!

So I haven't been fishing with my dad since I was really little.  Now if I wanted to go I would need a license, which I wouldn't ever use enough to be worth it.  For those of you might want to go with your dads as a pre-father's day activity or make it a fun little day activity with friends, here is a list of days by state where you can fish without a license.

Go fishing free!

$20 back on $100 gift cards!

Western Union is now giving $20 back on $100 gift cards! What a great deal! They also have quite the selection of stores to choose from. In order to get this great deal, you just have to be a first time WU user, make an eligible $100 purchase, and sign up for the WU Pay program.

The $20 you get back can be redeemed for other online purchases in the form of coupons (the merchant list is HUGE so there shouldn't be a problem finding somewhere to spend the $20). You are only eligible to receive a check if you have a cash back balance of $50....so if you really like the WU program you can build up your cash back balance.

No financial information is necessary and its free to sign up for. The deal ends June 30th. Please note that the gift cards are e-cards and not plastic cards.

Since Father's Day is coming up, you could get your dad the perfect gift. I think that a dad would really enjoy a Foot Locker, Bass Pro Shops, or Champs giftcard.

Also since summer is starting the American Airlines and Travelocity Hotel cards could make for a lovely weekend getaway.

But, as every college student knows, Amazon giftcards are always great for getting textbooks!

Budgeting continued: 4 steps to start budgeting!

Based on the response from last week's post, I am going to do a budgeting series where I share how I think that you should make a budget, different budgeting styles and just some general budgeting ins and outs.  This week I have a video and quick write up on 4 steps to start budgeting!

Quick confession: I made this last week because I knew that I wouldn't feel like putting on makeup/doing anything while I was at the beach.  I did kind of go for the beachy wave look though :p

Set a goal for why you want to budget—you won’t stick with anything unless there is a reason for it.  So whether it is saving, getting a healthier relationship with money, getting out of debt, or anything else (reasons can run the gamut), you need to have something that puts
Get the big picture of your income and spending habits—You can do this by either going through your bank account and tallying things up, or for a much easier/effective way you can sign up for mint.com, which when linked to your bank accounts will give you a comprehensive view of what you’ve been spending on.
Review expenditures.  Each expenditure class from previous months should be placed in one of 4 categories: keep at the current amount, cut, postpone, or get rid of.   Note that postpone is really only an option for certain things like: if you are planning on taking a trip soon or making a big purchase.  If you look at your monthly expenditures and you’ve been cutting into savings or accumulating debt you need to really consider cutting a lot.  You may look at your spending habits and decide that you want to keep all of them and as long as its in your means to do so and you still have room for saving then keep what you want.  Even for people who fall into this category, budgeting each month can still be really helpful (see 5 reasons to budget).
With your results from the last step at hand, you can write up your initial monthly budget!

Happy Memorial Day!

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

I hope that everyone has had an enjoyable long weekend! It sure has been busy!

I just want to give a shout out to the courageous men and women in uniform both living and deceased who have risked their daily to defend our beautiful country and freedom!

I would like to share free websites where you can show your gratitude to the troops if you wish:

Adopt a Soldier - I have adopted a few soldiers on this site. Its super easy, and you get an email address that you can correspond with your adopted soldier. Just understand that responses are usually delayed as internet may be hard to come by abroad. You can also send goodies to your soldier if you please :)

A Million Thanks - Use this site to send cards to soldiers! Its a great way to put a smile on a soldier's face and if you do it by Friday your card will make it in time for the 4th of July!

Enjoy your Memorial Day Monday and please take a few moments to remember the people who defend our freedom :)

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Elvis, my favorite soldier ;)

Happy Memorial Day/Old Navy

My mom and I just got back from Old Navy where she got some of the sale T-Shirts and used the 10% off code we posted about Saturday (you can search Old Navy on our page if you missed it).

I like that the colors where kind of red, white, and blue for Memorial Day today.  Well... pink grey and blue, but you get the idea!

Oh and in the corner you can see the bag of craisins we got from Target with a free coupon that they sent me with a sample pack earlier this month.

Anyways, I hope that you all have a wonderful holiday!!! We'll be back to normal posting tomorrow unless we find something really irresistible today..

25,000 Items under $25

If there is anything you need in the clothing/shoe department right now I would advise trying to get it this weekend as memorial day really does have lower prices for clothing than other times of year!
I've ordered Sperry shoes off of this site before;  right now they have 2,500 under $25 in clearance, so I would check them out if you want nice, inexpensive shoes! You can go through this link: Preview our Memorial Day super sale!

And that's it for my posts tonight! If I see anything tomorrow I will let you all know. I hope you are enjoying a lovely start to the 3 day weekend with your friends an family.  As always, thanks for checking us out :)

Free Iphone Apps Today!!!

Ok so I never posts all the free ones because half of them are junk and I think your time is valuable.  But even though I only try to post good ones anyway, the ones that were up today seem really good!!

ReverseCamera
WorldScan--so I've been using a different scanning app on my phone but I would definitely recommend finding one and having something that can take pictures and convert them to pdf to be emailed out or sent to a fax.
Splashtop CamCam--this one has great reviews from all the previous versions and is normally $10.  Even though this version might not be mac compatible, if you get it now then future updates are free, so hopefully they can work out the bugs.

And then there is the one I am most excited for because I am continually having to look things like this up on my computer: the Kitchenator which converts kitchen measurements.  I really like making meals/baking AND cooking things yourself is a big money saver... more about that later.

Free Lipton Tea Sample

If you like mix in type drinks (crystal light, etc.) this could be a good sample for you!

Just a standard facebook sign up.

Just got in to my beach house :)

Hey all sorry there haven't been many posts today.  I was up at 6 in Denver and then flew to Atlanta and drove from there in to Charleston with my family and I guess Holly has been busy too.  I will try and go through my email/look through some stuff and post before I head to bed in a little!

Here's a photo that I took when we were driving across the state line today :)

Upromise

Join Upromise 728x90

So the focus of our blog is to help college students and young adults with their finances, and we are definitely going to be focusing on ways to finance school payoff loans for students who are doing that on their own or who don't have their parents or scholarships covering their education.  One of the best things that I have found so far (and I actually seem to be seeing things about it a lot recently) is Upromise.

The program is run by Sallie May and partners with both grocery stores (and online retailers) to donate a percentage of your purchases to either a college savings account that it sets up, to loan repayment, or can be taken as a check.  To sign up or get more information you can click through their link here (or on the banner above).
Upromise - The Smart Way to Save for College

I would have your grocery cards handy for the sign up. Feel free to email your parents and relatives a link to this page so they can read a little bit about it and sign their cards up for your account too.

We are also adding a new page with some suggestions and links for financing college.  If any of you have any we should add please let us know!!!

Frugal Friday Tip: Saving Money on Gas

So last week we went over how to get into movie screenings.  This week I want to give you all my two cents about saving money on gas: and with summer prices I feel like it's a good time.

My biggest piece of advice would be to use GasBuddy.  If you have any sort of smartphone, you can download this as a free app.  It's in the itunes app store here and can be downloaded for androids here.  You can also get it for blackberries and windows phones.  Otherwise you can use their website.  While I don't recommend driving across town to get gas that is 5 cents less, knowing that there are stations on your route that vary even 10 cents can help you save at least a few dollars every time you fill up, which can be significant over the long run.

Slightly more cost efficient is making sure that you use any grocery saver card gas deal that you might already have.  In Denver King Soopers has a program that gives a ten cent per gallon gas discount for each hundred dollars of groceries you buy in addition to always offering a three cent discount just for being a reward member.  These compound and can equate to big discounts if you already shop there: recently my Dad had racked up 70 cents off a gallon--which works on an entire fill up!

Also, if you have a Costco card or can get put on a family members membership, filling up at Costco can be an easy way to save  a lot on gas (this is where I tend to get gas in California).

Any suggestions I missed???

Free 8x10 Photo Today at RiteAid

I'm always amazed at how much nicer photo enlargements are.  If you have one you've been wanting to decorate with or one for your dad (a nice frugal tip is to plan gift in advance so that you can use sales and deals to your advantage): Riteaid has them free today if you select in store pick up.  Just go through their normal photo site here--or google Rite Aid photo--upload and then enter code FBFREE8X10 at checkout.  The nice thing is you only need to upload and order today and then you can pick up whenever its convenient!

Start of Memorial Day Sales: Old Navy Tanks and Tee's $2-$4

So in general memorial day weekend is one of the best of the year if you want to buy clothes.  Already I've heard about Nordstrom's half yearly sale, big discounts online, and now this one at Old Navy, which is really good if you need to stock up on basics for the summer.
Note: If there isn't a store near you you can get them for $4 online.

You can go here on Facebook and get an extra 10% off making it even cheaper! Don't forget to like Young and Centsible while you're at it!

Last day for the sale is Monday (Memorial Day)--I'm heading off to the beach in South Carolina with my family tomorrow, but there is one close to where we stay and my mom was just saying she needed some t-shirts there, so we will definitely be stopping by :).

Free Iphone Apps

So just a quick apology to those of you who don't have iPhones (and just so you know there are free Android apps everyday on Amazon).

I'm really excited about today's free apps because they both look super useful!
iTranslator

Remember that you don't actually need a kindle for these, you just download them to your "cloud reader" which you should already have if you have an amazon account and then you can access it online any time.  I've definitely been meaning to learn how to make bread (and in fact, don't have a breadmaker) so this book looked great :) Click here to get it free!

Free Magazines!!!

FreeBizMag was running a special for the first 500 people that signed up to get Food&Wine Magazine earlier this morning; while I think that might be over I would definitely recommend looking at the other free magazines on the site.  I've gotten a few of the engineering ones and they are really good and up-to-date and are helpful to read through before interviews etc.  And they are totally free!
Looking for free trade magazine subscriptions? Checkout freebizmag.com!

Free Sample of Whole Food's Agave Syrups
